Candidate for the Faculty Council – Health, Safety and Well-being first!

Dear,

I would like to run for the Faculty Council.

A healthy, safe workplace in which everyone (regardless of origin, background, gender, race, religion etc.) works together pleasantly and respectfully towards each other is essential for all of us – whether we work in a laboratory, an office or a teaching space. Given my position as Occupational Health & Safety & Environment Coordinator for FSE,  creating, monitoring, maintaining or improving working conditions is my priority.

My goal is to structurally put the health, safety & well-being of students and staff on the agenda, and I seize every opportunity to do so.

In my role, I visit all 4 FSE locations (Maastricht, Heerlen, Chemelot, Venlo) every week. On-site I work intensively with colleagues from all programs, departments, services, from the most diverse functions: from student, PhD researcher, lab coordinators to professors, site managers and the members of the faculty board themselves.

I think that my expertise and input from "the FSE workfield" can make a valuable contribution to the decision-making within our faculty. From the on-site visits and the conversations I get a lot of information from out of  the entire faculty, and with info I have a good picture of the working conditions, work environment. This gives me a unique opportunity to see positive developments, but unfortunately also to hear sounds of dissatisfaction.

Furthermore, I strive for an improvement of internal communication within the faculty on topics such as new hires/colleaques,  upcoming organizational changes, new projects. Missing or suboptimal internal communication is a source of annoyance for many colleagues and has a negative impact on well-being.

Participation in the faculty council gives me/us the opportunity to proactively identify such issues early on, as well as the opportunity to think about an better and adequate method of communication and implementation to promote the health and well-being of employees and students.

Colleagues who already know me describe me as an open sparring partner who provides solicited and unsolicited advice on a diverse spectrum of subjects. Personal qualities that I am fully committed to using for the faculty council.

Together we can create a faculty in which everyone feels safe and healthy.

Kind regards,

Raymond Hodiamont - Occupational Health & Safety coordinator FSE
