KAN Party University Council

KAN we change it? Yes, we KAN!

KAN is an international community and student party at UM. We ensure that YOUR voice is heard and that UM is held accountable.

Standing united for people and planet, our main priorities are:

  • More and better accessible study spaces

  • Affordable and healthy food at the cafeterias

  • Reflection weeks for every program

Furthermore, we will continue advancing the following topics in the councils:

  • Sustainability & Climate Justice: Phasing out of fossil fuels, improving flight policy, and increasing energy efficiency.

  • Diversity & Inclusivity: Promoting and attracting diverse backgrounds and improving learning accessibility.

  • Wellbeing: Mental health, housing, and sexual safety: Introducing new initiatives and increasing support facilities and resources.

  • Education and Careers: Ensuring equitable access to career services and platforms, as well as a future-proof curriculum.

  • Community and Internationalization: Easing international arrival and integration within the local community and realizing more cross-faculty collaboration.

We believe that social responsibility goes hand in hand with a thriving university.

Krithik Rock

Krithik Rock

Hey, I’m Krithik! I'm from Pondicherry and South East Asia, so I value internationalism at UM.

With two years already as an elected councillor, I can pair my experience and understanding of UM’s political landscape with my passion for community engagement to fulfill UM’s ambitions of sustainability, and sexual and social safety, alongside continuing to work on linking the municipality and university on our key shared concerns: the housing crisis, and transforming Maastricht into an attractive job market for after you’ve graduated.

To discuss the above topics, find me at the ICL, FASoS or reach out to KAN Party's Instagram!

Sonora Ward

Sonora Ward

I’m Sonora, a second year Global Studies student dedicated to climate and social justice. This past year as a faculty counselor I have pushed for increased resources and support for internationals, adding an evacuation chair in 76, and organized a workshop to address harmful behavior in PBL. I hope to continue these projects and more! I want a more equitable, sustainable and inclusive learning environment for my fellow students. I aim to expand support for international students, improve accessibility of the faculties, implement workshops to create safer learning environments and organize community building activities centered on ecology and mental health

Hi! I’m Iris, a second year psychology student. I have noticed that many of my peers don’t feel as welcome or cared for as they could at our faculty. I’ve been a member of the faculty council of the past year, working on creating an environment in which everyone feels at home and to create a sense of community, through activities such as hosting an art gallery. I want to make sure you feel heard, so please don’t hesitate to stop me for a chat if you see me walking around the university!

Maelysse Billard

Hi! I’m Maelysse and I’m a second-year student in Global Studies. I’m a KAN and a Fasos Green team member as my values turn around sustainability, climate awareness, and inclusivity. Besides these values, I am very sporty and like to run and lift weights.

Improving our learning system is improving the faculty buildings by making them more sustainable, but also by improving the inclusiveness and the enlargement of the student community. After spending about a year in Maastricht, I am determined to help make changes and improve our environment.

Please don't hesitate to message me if you'd like to chat!

KAN’s mental health and diveristy&inclusivity values are of great importance to me. I am committed to working towards maintaining and improving the UM wellbeing support access at our university, mainly mental health services. As for the diversity & inclusivity aspect, my priority is to foster an inclusive learning/teaching environment where everyone feels comfortable.

I look forward to collaborating with my fellow student representatives and staff to make UM a pleasant space where academic and personal development thrive.

Hi everyone! My name is Luciana and I am a second year student of the B.Sc Global Studies. From an early age, I enjoy learning and participating in activities which involve the environment. Whether it's for leisure or for studying its complexities with today’s society, understanding our natural interconnected system has always been a source of inspiration throughout my life. For this reason, being part of the KAN candidacy team excited me to further spread my passion towards thinking of more sustainable and innovative strategies, uplifting the university’s environment and students wellbeing.
