MSRP DOPE University Council

Never before have students been under more pressure than now. We need change! DOPE is a student representation party that can represent your voice to make a change. Firstly, we would like to introduce ourselves. Next academic year, Selma, Bas, Jonas, Annieke, Noël, Annefleur, Rennee, Stephan and Lotte will represent the student body at the University council of Maastricht University.

Due to student loans, students are worried about their financial situation. After the corona pandemic, it is of utmost importance to discuss the student’s wellbeing. An important aspect of student wellbeing includes housing. We strive to fight for affordable and accessible housing for every student. Mental health issues are becoming increasingly more problematic, and more awareness about the support system that the university has to offer is in order. One way of achieving this, is to educate tutors on the best way to identify students in need of mental health support. By detecting the problem, students can be referred to the university psychologists or seek other forms of guidance. The digital environment of the university must innovate. Means for communication, such as the email system, need to become more accessible. This can be achieved by creating an app for the said system, compelling a universal usage of Canvas and keeping all lectures available online in a higher quality. Furthermore, the university needs an extended policy on sustainability. The world is changing, and the university must change with it by decreasing the temperature on campus, turning off the lights and reducing the excessive usage of paper. Every exam week we face the same problem: insufficient study places. We have already acquired more spaces, but there still seems to be a shortage, something we strive to improve even more. Flex-studying is a concept we want implemented at the university, because it offers more possibilities for extracurricular activities and it makes sure that students don’t pay for courses that they are not taking. Finally, free language courses for all students help with a smooth integration and offer improved career prospects while remaining true to the international character of the university.

In short, DOPE is excited to represent you as a student at Maastricht University. With lots of experience gained over the years, we know how to achieve results. To accomplish our goals, we need your help. We therefore hope that we can count on your vote for a better UM tomorrow!
