Independent Support Staff

We are a dedicated list of support staff members with a passion for our university. Our goal is to work constructively with the board and the rest of the council to address the many challenges we will face in the coming two years. Our list combines experienced council members with new faces, ensuring both stability and fresh perspectives. As an independent support staff list, we are committed to prioritising the needs of support staff above all else. We advocate for better recognition, professional development opportunities, and a strong, inclusive work environment where every support staff member feels valued and heard.

Having been part of our university for nearly 25 years—eight of them in the council—I am committed to representing Support Staff (OBP) while keeping a broad perspective. I believe in working together to ensure our voices are heard.

In the coming years, we face challenges such as potential budget cuts, internationalisation, UMC+, and the impact of generative AI. I am ready to engage with the Board and fellow council members to address these issues constructively.

Your support matters. Let’s work towards a university that values and strengthens its entire community

"Go the Extra Mile" – I cherish that old UM slogan. Be the one who simplifies procedures, improves communication with students or comes up with fresh ideas. You can make a difference.

I want to go the extra mile in the university council, the platform where impact is created collectively. Are we doing the right things, and are we doing them right? - those are my key questions. Especially when tackling tough issues, it’s crucial to have clear answers on the "why" and the "how" of proposed changes. The expertise of support staff matters!

Activism is a pillar of my academic career. I like to help wherever I can. I am a relatively fresh face, working since April 2024 for the Maastricht University Library. Before that I was at the University of Twente, where I studied, obtained my PhD, and worked also as Supporting Staff. I was a member of the University Council there, and before that was a board member and president of the UT PhD Network. My experience and (international) background give me a wide and critical perspective on things, but my main goal is to channel the views of our community.

As a candidate for the university council, I passionately advocate for equal rights for the university community, from the cleaners to the deans. I believe in fostering an inclusive environment where every voice is heard and valued.

Transparency is at the heart of my approach; I am committed to open communication and accountability, ensuring that everyone is informed and engaged in decision-making processes. I take great pleasure in helping others, whether it’s through offering support, listening to concerns, or collaborating on solutions that benefit our entire community.

Together, we can create a university where everyone feels empowered and respected.

For me, employee participation is an extremely valuable addition to any organization. It provides balance in management and ensures that the interests of employees are not lost sight of. I have therefore had various roles in employee participation bodies. Within Maastricht University I have gained experience within a faculty and since a little over a year also at De Berg. At the moment I am mainly concerned with setting up UM's ICT landscape to meet the needs of faculties and services. I spend my free time playing electric guitar and golf.
